Ranil has been on the Board of Trustees of the Lionel Wendt since 2006 and is currently the Chairman of the Lionel Wendt Memorial Fund. He was a Captain and President of the Royal Colombo Golf Club (est. 1879) and is active in the Wild Life and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka during which he was Vice President in its 125th year. Ranil was formerly the Director and Chief Operating Officer at Richard Pieris and Company Limited (RPC), during which he was on the board of thirteen subsidiary Companies of RPC and was Chairman of nine of these. Ranil was a part of the Sri Lanka cricket tour to UK in 1981 whilst also representing Sri Lanka in the Asian games at golf in 1983 amongst other International events.
