Launch of ARTRA Magazine’s Art & Design of Ismeth Raheem Edition
An evening of art, conversation, food and drinks with the revered artist, architect & art historian in celebration of the launch of ARTRA Magazine’s Art & Design of Ismeth Raheem Edition 67 (2024). Featuring over 65 selected works of art including paintings, drawings, wood panels, woodcuts and etchings across a span of six decades, this edition of the magazine brings together a series of curated works that he pursued since he joined Edwards, Reid and Begg in the 1960s - fuelling the creative renaissance of this critical period in Sri Lanka’s cultural history in collaboration with Geoffrey Bawa & Ulrik Plesner.

Amesh Wijesekera, Artist & Designer who was recognized as ARTRA’s Emerging Artist | Best of 2017 for Applied Art will explore his artistic premise in contesting gender norms and advocacy of environmentalism through his artifacts and designs from his personal collection, exclusively during this segment.

Bawa’s Designs of the 1960s & 70s
Anura Ratnavibhushana
Anura Ratnavibhushana who apprenticed under Geoffrey Bawa in the 1960s and worked as an architect through the 1970s at Edwards, Reid and Begg will shed light on his perceptions of Bawa's designs, whilst sharing his experience working with Ulrik Plesner, Ismeth Raheem, Laki Senanayake, Barbara Sansoni and Ena de Silva.

Academic and Author (2024) Prof. Neluka Silva will explore her process behind writing for children, and how local artists and architects influenced the conceptual framework of her latest children’s book Trapped in a Smoky Sky amidst an exhibit of drawings commissioned for the book for the viewing of the audience during this segment.

Purveying the Body | Lionel Wendt
In reminiscence and response to ARTRA Magazine’s Photographs of Lionel Wendt Edition (2021), the exhibit ‘Purveying the Body’ curated by Azara Jaleel showcases a selection of 30 photographs by Lionel Wendt from the Lionel Wendt Memorial Fund Collection. During this segment Ranil Pieris, Chairman of the Lionel Wendt Memorial Fund, Anu Weerasuriya Curator, Archivist & Former Trustee of Lionel Wendt Memorial Fund & Azara Jaleel, Editor-in-Chief will explore the significance of the edition and exhibit alongside the historicity of the Lionel Wendt Photographs & Writings that are a part of the Lionel Wendt Memorial Fund Collection.

Prof. Sharya Scharenguivel, daughter of the owners of the de Soysa House, Cecil and Chloe de Soysa & holder of the property will share the story of this quaint residence, and her memories with Geoffrey Bawa whilst he was designing this private home in 1985 – characterizing the importance of heritage spaces in Colombo.
